Swine Flu FAQ
Can we eat pork?
Yes you absolutely can, this has been confirmed numerous times already.
Is Swine Flu more deadlier than the regular flu?
As of now.. no. Around 30,000 people die a year from the regular flu, while only a couple in the United States have died from the swine flu.
What is the difference between Swine Flu and Regular Flu?
There is no real difference in symptoms, but one minor difference to note is that there is an increase of the percentage of patients reporting vomiting and diarrhea. If you notice swine flu like symptoms then it is BEST to go visit a doctor as I can’t diagnose or neither can your family and friends. If at the Doctor’s, they will get a simple throat and nose swab and send those samples out to the CDC or local/state health officials to check for a confirmed diagnosis of Swine Flu.
Can I die from Swine Flu?
As I have said, most probably not, all you have to do is make sure you get treated well. Mexico had a semi-high rate was because there health care is lower in standards compared to the US.
How did the Swine Flu come around again?
Following the outbreak swine flu was reported in pigs on a farm in Alberta, Canada. It is suspected that a farm worker who came back from Mexico transmitted the virus to the pigs. The original source of this new strand of H1N1 virus is still unknown. This statement is still under research.
What you can do to prevent the Swine Flu?
Swine Flu can be contagious for up to 5 days or in some children for 10 days.
Prevention tips:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
- Wash you hands frequently with soap and water for at least 15-20 seconds, especially after you sneeze. Alcohol based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth as germs spread this way.
- Stay home if you are sick or until you have been symptom free for at least 24 hours.
Swine Flu Treatment
Virals: Tamiflu and Relenza – both known to treat and prevent infections
Palliative Care: Maintaining fluid balance and controlling fevers, at the care of home or hospital.
Virals can be important, but most people made a full recovery without them!
